I am almost officially done with Slippery Rock University. Today was final walk throughs where the faculty walks around the art studios to look at the upper level art work. So there is nothing to be made all that remains is to show up and critique. These are my favorite pieces I made in ceramics this year. Combining two of my favorite studios lately, photo and ceramics. These were slip dipped then burnt out ceramic bibs with an image transfer over top. Family photos of ones who are near and dear. They will hang on the wall.

It’s been a busy week or so now finishing up classes but I’m finally updating with photos from my Senior Exhibition. I had 8 digital photographs displayed in shadow boxes behind the wall. I drilled a hole in the wall about the size of a quarter and placed a filigree bronze frame around each hole. The viewer had to then view each photograph by looking through the hole in the wall. The opening went very well I received a lot of good feedback and it was such a great experience.

Artist Statement:

When I observe the world around me, I see photographs.

Being a very curious individual, I have an acute sensitivity to the mundane things in life. I am inspired by the little things in life that people tend to disregard.

My photographs are recreations of experiences, awkward or mundane. I am alert and aware of my presence in relation to other people living around me. By appearing to be unseen, my photographs attempt to break the boundaries of commonly accepted rules of privacy.

Today was the beginning of the show I have been thinking about since I began my adventures at Slippery Rock University. I began installing my Senior Exhibition which I have titled Observations. The show is done in photography with a little bit of a twist on traditional display, as the photo above suggests. My opening is this Monday and I really couldn’t be more excited. It has been a very stressful project but I think the outcome is one I can honestly say I am proud of.

I am working on a collaborative sketchbook project that will be exhibited in Brooklyn NY. This image is a collage made up of my dark room test strips over the past three years. I forgot how fun collage is and am getting sad to think that this is my last semester. Being in the darkroom again today (for the first time in a month or so) really made me wish I had my own when I am done with school. Keeping my fingers crossed eventually I will.

We had a critique in Photography today. The assignment was Psychological Portrait. This was taken this past weekend in Washington DC. I really enjoy taking candid photographs where the subjects natural and their true self is revealed. I think this is a good example of that.

Hi, I’m Lauren.

I am currently in my last semester graduating in three weeks with a Bachelor of Fine Arts and an Art History Minor. I want to be an Elementary Art Teacher, or any Art teacher for that matter. I have one week to finish working on my Senior Exhibition this time next week the opening will be over and stress levels will be way down. I am pretty excited to share my adventures with you, whoever you are.
